Tech drops heartbreaker on walkoff to Scholars Academy, 5-4

5/8/24

From Coach Nardiello: Disappointing game @Scholars Academy / Ft. Tilden Field — as our guys want to win, have the talent to win, but we just didn’t close-out a team to GET the Win. Hugo Tosler pitched well and deep into the game.. but we couldn’t pad our early lead (and that came back to bite us). On offense, Ricky Nunez hit a 2-R HR clean out of CF, had 2 H, 3 RBI. Simon Scherber Brennan had 2 H. Zach Harwayne and Hugo each a single. But too many just didn’t hit in the clutch.

Up 4-0 we let them chip away and the Sea-Wolves rallied and scored 2 in the 7th, when we had them down to their last out (with bases empty). They walked us off. Heart-breaking. Seemed like 2 separate game-days. First, the fun bus ride out and opening 2 innings (when the Engineers were winning, 4-0). Then a frustrating look at poor base-running and not putting many balls in play in big spots. Our guys will be self-motivated to do better.
