Tech drops game to powerhouse John Jay, 11-4, despite strong showing from Tosler

5/16/24

From Coach Nardiello: Rain again!? With Parade Grounds 3 washed out we pivot to a turf field in Red Hook to host Division-leading John Jay Jaguars. Solid game apart from 1 inning where we misplayed 2-3 balls and allowed them 7 runs. Offense was solid paced by 2 hits from Sawyer (2B), Rickey (2B), and Evan. Trevor launched a line-drive off the CF wall (2B). Hugo started and battled for 5 IP, then Silas pitched the 6th, and Nico retired them 1-2-3 in the 7th on only 10 pitches. We just allowed too many runs early, to come back today. 11-4 loss.

Tech Prevails in Nail-biter over rival Midwood, 10-8

5/14/24

From Coach Nardiello: Dramatic, 10-8 win! Up early, but Midwood builds a 6-2 lead–and our Engineers just don’t give up, scoring 8 runs in last 2 innings! But Midwood rallies back in 7th, and with bases loaded, no outs freshman Cooper Chung boldly works out of the jam (for the save). And it was a nail-biter. Former Capt. Mark DeDona visited and helped prep team. Alums Robert Reatz and Morgan Small lifted spirits mid-game. Irony of team effort: Offense was provided by seniors Rickey Nunez (2R, 2H, 2B, BB), Sawyer Reo (2R, 2H, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 SBs, BB, CI), Evan Froelich (RBI single), Zach Harwayne (2H, 2 RBI) and Hugo Tosler (RBI, H). Pitching was handled by underclassmen: starter Jake Rapoport (4.1 IP), his freshman “twin” Jadon Renert (1.2 IP, gets the W) and Cooper Chung (1 IP) who entered with 0 outs and bases loaded and worked hard with the full team behind him.

Tech drops heartbreaker on walkoff to Scholars Academy, 5-4

5/8/24

From Coach Nardiello: Disappointing game @Scholars Academy / Ft. Tilden Field — as our guys want to win, have the talent to win, but we just didn’t close-out a team to GET the Win. Hugo Tosler pitched well and deep into the game.. but we couldn’t pad our early lead (and that came back to bite us). On offense, Ricky Nunez hit a 2-R HR clean out of CF, had 2 H, 3 RBI. Simon Scherber Brennan had 2 H. Zach Harwayne and Hugo each a single. But too many just didn’t hit in the clutch.

Up 4-0 we let them chip away and the Sea-Wolves rallied and scored 2 in the 7th, when we had them down to their last out (with bases empty). They walked us off. Heart-breaking. Seemed like 2 separate game-days. First, the fun bus ride out and opening 2 innings (when the Engineers were winning, 4-0). Then a frustrating look at poor base-running and not putting many balls in play in big spots. Our guys will be self-motivated to do better.

Early outburst helps Tech extend streak against Van Arsdale, 8-3

5/6/24

From Coach Nardiello: Season rolls on with a 8-3 win @Van Ardsdale, played at PG1 after rains washed out McCarron field. Our offense hit early (4 run 1st) and set the tone. On the mound, Daniel Lo kept VA off-balance with 4IP, 9 Ks, 2H, 1 ER pitching around 5BBs for the Win. Logan Reiman (2IP, 2BB, 2H, 2ER) and Silas Hubbell (1IP, K) secured the win. Jake Rapoport went 2-3, with a 2B and R. Rickey Nunez had 2 RBIs, Evan Froelich went 2-3 with a BB. Solid game bringing our record to 6-4!

French goes distance as Tech Cruises Over Wagner 10-3.

5/4/24

From Coach Nardiello: Engineers visit Wagner Falcons and come home with a 10-3 win. Oliver French worked an amazing CG start: 7 IP, 4H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 9 Ks. Our offense was helped by a 6R 3rd inning, a 3B from Sawyer and 2Bs by Aayan & Ricky (2 H). Evan and Zach added 2 RBI. Tech now stands at 5-4 on the season with a lot of baseball crammed into May.

Tech Bests van Arsdale in PG Nail-biter, Evens Record, 2-1

5/3/24

From Coach Nardiello: Friday, our Engineers won, 2-1 over the Van Ardsdale Cardinals, mainly on the strength of pitching by soph Jake Rapoport and freshman Jadon Renert. Jake pitched 3 innings of no-hit ball with 5 Ks (3 BBs). Jadon relieved and allowed only 1 R (unearned) the rest of the way: 4 IP with an amazing 8 Ks, BB and 2 Hs. On offense, Simon Sherber-Brennan stayed hot (2-4, R, 2B). Hugo Tosler was 1-3 with a walk. Ricky Nunez scored after his 2nd inning walk. And Jadon helped his own cause with a walk-off walk in the bottom of the 7th, scoring Simon and securing the win.

The Engineers’ record is now 4-4.

Engineers Edge Midwood in Epic, Extra-Inning Effort, 4-3

5/1/24

From Coach Nardiello: Best game of the season, so far, as our Engineers rallied around Hugo Tosler (6 IP, 3 Hits allowed) and won in extra innings, 4-3 vs. Midwood at their Bergen Beach field. Trevor had 2 clutch hits, Ricky tripled, both Sawyer and Simon had 2Bs, and Zach added an RBI single. Aayan in CF was outstanding again, and Jackson made a great running catch in deep RCF. Freshman Cooper Chung pitched a gutty 3 innings (including both extras) for his 1st win.

Grand Street Walks All Over Tech, 16-4

4/30/24

From Coach Nardiello: On Tuesday, seemed like our team was still on Spring Break–they actually were!–in a 16-4 loss vs Grand St. at American Legion Fields. We gave them 14 Walks in only 5 innings of work, using 5 pitchers–and let so many scoring chances of our own go to waste. We have a big week ahead, so we wrinkle this one up, and toss it in the cylindrical file.

Engineers Top Curtis 6-2 in Pitchers’ Duel at Parade Grounds

4/18/24

From Coach Nardiello: Under threat of rain, and light rain across the 1st four innings, our Engineers toughed-out a 6-2 win over the Warriors of Curtis High School. This was one to build on — some of our younger talented players stepped up. Pitching was solid as soph Jake Rapoport (3 IP, 7K, H, 0 ER, 0 BB) had a superb 1st game of the season for the win. Freshman Jadon Renert supported him very well (4 IP, 5K, 2 H, ER, BB) to earn the save. The offense was outstanding with 12 Hits in 6 turns at bat—paced by Hugo Tosler (2-3, 3B, R), Sawyer Reo (2-2, RBI, 2B, BB), Jackson Janes (2-3, 2B, R, RBI) and Aayan Ramamurthy (2-3, R, RBI). We walked 4x and only 3 strikeouts.
